Final/Position Scan
Late Pregnancy Scan (Fetal Position & Final Check) – Kathmandu
A late third-trimester ultrasound (around 36–38 weeks) at Lomash Health is the final check before delivery. This scan ensures the baby is healthy and in the correct position (head-down) for birth. It evaluates fetal growth, amniotic fluid, and placenta location. If baby is breech, our team can advise management options.
Focus of Final Scan
- Fetal position: Determines if baby is head-first (cephalic) or breech/sideways. Identifying breech can prevent last-minute surprises.
- Baby’s size: Checks if growth is on track or if extra monitoring is needed (LGA or SGA).
- Amniotic fluid and placenta: Ensures adequate fluid and placenta health.
- Cervical check (Optional): A quick look to assess cervix readiness for labor.
FAQs:
- Should all mothers get a 36-week scan? While not mandatory, many practitioners recommend a final scan to avoid undetected breech presentation.
- Can it induce labor? No, ultrasound itself cannot start labor.
- What if baby is breech? We will counsel on options; sometimes a special turning procedure (version) or planned C-section is advised.
